GRANITE FALLS, NC (February 13, 2007) – Representatives of Lauth and Wal-Mart joined Granite Falls Mayor Barry Hayes today to break ground on the area’s newest shopping destination – The Shoppes at Rivercrest.
“Lauth is excited to get started on this exciting retail opportunity for the people in the Granite Falls and North Hickory area,” said Gary Reader, Vice President of Development Operations at Lauth. “Lauth’s nationwide experience in building these types of retail centers will produce wonderful new shopping choices for the people of this fast growing and underserved community.”
The Shoppes at Rivercrest will be situated on 60-acres just north of the Catawba River at the intersection of Highway 321 and New Farm Road in the town of Granite Falls. It will feature more than 280,000 square feet of retail space and 1,800 parking spaces, built in two phases. An 184,000 SF Wal-Mart SuperCenter will serve as the anchor tenant for The Shoppes at Rivercrest. Lauth expects to open phase 1 of The Shoppes at Rivercrest, including the Wal-Mart, by the end of the year.
“We are excited to be a part of the Shoppes at Rivercrest. This location gives us the opportunity to better serve our customers in this area, provide an expanded grocery selection, $4 generic prescriptions, and our every day low prices,” says David Cruse, Wal-Mart Market Manager for the area. “We are looking forward to bringing over 300 jobs to this area as well as the opportunities that Wal-Mart provides,” Cruse adds.
Mayor of Granite Falls Barry Hayes, stated, “I congratulate the Lauth Property Group on their foresight to choose and close on this wonderful piece of property. The Council, staff, employees, and residents of Granite Falls look forward to this development and the stores, shops , and restaurants it will bring. Granite Falls is a great place to live and work, and this project will make it even better.”
The Shoppes at Rivercrest marks the third major retail center developed by Lauth, a national developer and contractor, in the Charlotte area in the past year. The other centers include Catawba Springs Promenade in Denver, NC and Moores Chapel Village in Charlotte, both slated to open later this year. In addition, Lauth is owner and developer of NASCAR Plaza, a 19-story office tower, in downtown Charlotte.
